Easter Island
I lost all sense of context whilst on Easter Island.
In this podcast, I explain how easy it is to lose your point of reference in a new land. In this case, I found that after a few days on Easter Island, I felt like I’d always been there. Home felt like it had never existed.
I sometimes find I lose all sense of context when I’m somewhere remote, making photographs.
I’m just not sure if that’s a good thing or not.

Hi Bruce, thoroughly enjoyed the podcast once again.
Did you camp on the island, or stay somewhere and roam around? I’ve never been to that part of the world, so I’ve no idea what it’s like. Looks like an amazing place to spend some time. Did you photograph on BW negative film, or convert velvia transparencies? The photos look a bit like darkroom prints to me, that’s all.
Cheers,
mike

Hi Mike,
Easter Island is a fantastic place and I stayed in a YHA for my time there, but I would be happy camping.
The images were actually shot on Velvia, but I found them unsatisfactory so I converted them into Black and White. I love traditional prints, and traditional dark room techniques, so I just applied these in the digital domain. It’s all about your own artistic leanings. I’m a Michael Kenna fan and it was his work that gave me the inspiration.
