September News Letter

Dear All, Just a quick update on what your budding photographer has been doing this September.

Isle of Eigg Workshop Completed

Last week I spent a really nice time on the Isle of Eigg conducting my first ever Scottish photographic workshop.

I'm not new to doing workshops, but doing them on my own turf is something new, and I feel very lucky to have had such an enthusiastic bunch of people. Many thanks Andrew, Calum, Christian, Luciano,  Peter, Sam, Stephen & Torben.

We spent the entire week covering many aspects of landscape photography. What was interesting for me was how I saw participants images improve over the space of a week. We spent a bit of time each morning after breakfast doing a solid 3 hour critique of images and this really helped everyone pick up new suggestions for things to try later on that evening.

Workshop Feedback

I've updated the testimonials on my site with feedback from the guys on the trip. You can find it here, should you wish to get more of an insight to the trips and what's covered.

Harris Workshop - 1 space left

I'm only sad now that the trip is over, but I'm excited about the trips I have lined up for the remainder of the year. I'll be going to Glen Coe, Torridon and also Harris & Lewis. All the trips are full now, with the exception that the Harris trip has only one space left : so if you've been thinking of coming - now's your chance to get that last space :-)

So what's next?

I'm just very busy at the moment. I seem to have a lot of plans on, including setting up some further trips to Harris for May next year, the possibility of a trip to the isles of Arran, Skye and Assynt - one of my favourite places in the north west of Scotland.

I hope you've been keeping up to date with my postings - 'the making of 40 photographs', should you wish to find out more about how I make my images. I do plan to publish the final content as an e-Book later on in the year.

Until then, I hope this news letter finds you well.

All the best, Bruce.

Torridon Weekend Workshop Sold Out

The Torridon weekend workshop this October is now sold out. The two Glencoe weekend workshops as well as the week long Eigg workshop are completely full too. So I thought I’d write to let you all know that for the remainder of this year, the only workshop available is the Isle of Harris trip in late November.

Tempted? Oh go on! :-)

Seilebost, Harris

Seriously, I’m very pleased with the response to these trips and have lined up some trips for early next year now. For more information please look under the dates and prices section of my Light On Scotland web site.

Autumn in Glencoe Workshop - 1 space left

There is now only one space left for the Glencoe weekend workshop in October. It can be really beautiful at this time of year in the coe, with very settled weather as the picture below suggests.

Blackmount in October

So if you've been thinking of coming on this trip, bite now, or forever hold your peace...!

The trip commences on Friday evening October 16th and ends on Sunday the 18th at 1pm. Price is £349.

For booking and contact, please email me.

Eigg Workshop - 1 Space available

One space has become available for my Isle of Eigg workshop! So if you were thinking of coming along, now's your chance to secure that spot :-)

I'm particularly looking forward to this trip as it's for a whole week on a beautiful island.

We've got our own place to stay for the week where everyone can come and go as they please. So if you fancy a bit of time on your own to explore the island, you can.

I'll be bringing a digital projector and laptop so we can cover critiques of the groups images as well as tutorials on my own workflow - how I arrive at my final print from RAW or Film capture.

The trip is due to commence on the 14th of September, ending on the 19th of September, priced at £779. If you are interested, email me.

Eigg, Harris, Lewis & Orkney

I've been busy working on my new images from Harris, Lewis and Orkney. So this post has a nice preview of some images from those trips, but before I show you them, I have some important information on my Isle of Eigg workshop for September.

Isle of Eigg Workshop - Only 1 space left!

I know plenty of you have been telling me for months that you are intending on coming along on the Isle of Eigg workshop.

I now only have 1 space left, so if you are still thinking about coming - now is your chance.

Laig Bay, Isle of Eigg

Don't worry

TThe good news is that I have set up a second Eigg workshop for the 19th to 24th of April 2010, in case you can't make the September trip because I've been overrun by a stampede to get the last place ;-)

Harris & Lewis & Orkney

I thought I'd show you a preview of some new images I shot on Harris and Lewis & Orkney earlier this Summer.

This image was shot on the main Orkney Island at the rings of Brodgar.

And this one is of Seilbost beach on the isle of Harris:

And sometimes you find strange things on a beach. I loved the 'rocking horse' shape of this dead tree:

But I think I was most impressed by the Callanish Stones and happened upon them one summers evening while the moon was rising:

Torridon Photo Workshop

I'm in the process of setting up a photo workshop for Torridon, for this October, November. The light at this time of year can be particularly wonderful and Torridon is a special place for me with great views of lochans, mountain ranges and some cracking views from Applecross bay towards the Cuillins of Skye.

If you're interested in this trip, just pop me an email to bruce@brucepercy.com

I'll have more details up soon.

Glencoe December Workshop Sold Out

Hi all,

Glencoe December Workshop SOLD OUT

This workshop is now sold out. So if you were thinking of coming, perhaps I can persuade you to come on my October trip which can be just as beautiful a time to photograph the Glen.

Blackmount in October

Isle of Eigg Workshop

I currently have 4 spaces left on the 'Isle of Eigg' week long workshop in September and I expect all the places to be gone before the Summer is out. Just some forewarning if you are thinking of coming along!

Possible future Scottish workshops

I'd like to offer some more workshops in Scotland in the future.

Perhaps there is a region or place in Scotland such as Torridon, Skye, the outer Hebrides, or even somewhere closer to the central belt (nearer Edinburgh, Glasgow) which you would be up for participating in a day long, weekend long or even a week long trip?

If so - then drop me a line as I'd love to hear from you any thoughts you have.

Scottish Workshops 2009

I've just published information on some new photographic workshops that I will be doing in Scotland during 2009. I will be conducting a one week workshop on the Isle of Eigg in the Scottish Highlands during September, whilst during October and December respectively, I will be holding two short workshops - weekend trips to Glencoe in the Highlands too.

Please feel free to checkout my workshop section of my site for more information.

Scottish Workshop 2009

Would you be interested in coming along on a photo workshop, lead by me in Scotland next year? I'm currently investigating it, and would of course love to hear any ideas/thoughts you may have. Perhaps there is a particular place, or you would like to come on a short trip, say a weekend course instead of a week long one?

Anyway, let me know as I'm open to suggestions and any thoughts you may have.

Easter Island Photographic Workshop

Some places hold a spell over me, and I just have to return because I feel that I haven't fully explored all the photographic potential that is there. Easter Island is one such place for me, and I'm pleased to announce that I will be returning in 2009 (March 22nd to March 26th) to conduct a photographic workshop. I have aligned this trip to coincide with my annual workshop to Torres del Paine in Patagonia.

tongariki.JPG This is a very special trip that I have set up where each day gives a lot of concentrated time at many of the best locations, and of course, I'll be there to share thoughts on photography as well as discuss techniques.

Easter Island has to be the most remote place I've ever been to. The island is small, taking roughly about half an hour to get from one side to the other in a jeep. During that half hour early morning drive, I would pass an abundance of archaeological treasures, volcanoes, wild horses and silhouettes of the famous Moai statues. I was always aware of the pacific ocean on my travels, as well as the wide open sky. The clouds race over Easter Island's landscape creating shifting patterns of light and dark.

Please feel free to view the itinerary and if you have any questions I'd love to hear from you.
