5-Day Photographic Workshop
Wester Ross, Scottish Highlands

Introduction

This workshop is a 50 / 50 split between field work (making images in the surrounding Wester Ross highland landscape) and Digital Darkroom Editing / image interpretation techniques carried out in a studio environment.

During our time together we will be based in the north west of the Scottish highlands in the beautiful area of Wester Ross.

Please note: This workshop is not about learning a software application. Instead, its aim is to teach you how to interpret your work with the skills you have.

Informal Small Group Setting

Bruce likes to run his photography-workshops in a friendly, intimate group setting. This trip has a maximum group size of six.

Unlike a lot of workshops with up to 12 or 16 people on them, running with a smaller number allows everyone to have space in which to photograph. It also means more quality time for Bruce with each participant.

Synopsis

Learning to 'see' whilst out making images is a pretty important skill to work on during any workshop, but the art of 'seeing' shouldn't just stop at the point of capture.

Learning to 'see' is an extremely valuable asset whilst editing your work.

What we do with our work, how we manipulate it, should come from a strong understanding of tonal and colour relationships within the image, as well as your own personal vision.

This workshop teaches you to see themes, patterns and relationships within your images. We will also cover how to use these as cues to take your editing in a particular direction.

Required Fitness Level

Moderate Grading

Most locations are close to the vehicle. But you should be able to walk for up to 20 minutes up & down slopes and over uneven and boggy ground with your tripod and backpack.

There are some rocky beaches so you should be confident moving around a rocky terrain.

What's included

• Transportation from/to Inverness
• 5-nights dinner, bed & breakfast
• Packed lunch
• 4 days tuition in field and studio environments
• Personal use of Apple iMac
• Image interpretation e-Book

Presequisite

This workshop has a focus on image interpretation techniques in the digital darkroom. It is expected that you are reasonably familiar (but not an expert) with one of the following applications: Aperture, Capture One, Lightroom, Photoshop CS. Photoshop Elements is not suitable for this course.

Please Note: I do not teach you to use your software application. Instead I teach you to 'see' motifs, themes and patterns in your images and use these as the basis for your editing sessions.
