Hokkaido Island, Japan, Trip Details

Lone trees & minimalism, the quintessential Japanese landscape

The Japanese island of Hokkaido perhaps conjures up the most quintessential metaphor for the Japanese landscape.

11-Day Photographic Adventure

During our time together we will visit many minimalistic areas of the island while immersing ourselves in the Japanese culture and cuisine.

Arrival

We meet in the city of Chitose, on Hokkaido. There are direct flight connections from Tokyo's international airport.

Please arrive before 5pm so we can all meet at the hotel for evening dinner at 7pm.

Departure

The last night of the tour finishes in the town of Kushiro. There is a local airport that has connections to Tokyo's domestic airport (Hadena).

Please note that Tokyo's Hadena domestic airport is approximately 1 hour away from the International terminalTransfer is very easy when using the Airport Limousine company (regular bus service that has frequent transfers between both Hadena and Narita airports.

Daily Schedule Outline

Each day will have the following format:

The days are short in January, but this has plenty of benefits. Because the sun is low in the sky all day it means we have beautiful light lasting all day and it's possible to make great photos even at mid day.

6:00 - 8:00am
On location for sunrise.

8:30 - 9:00am
Breakfast.

9:30am - 12:30pm
Heading back out to shoot for the remainder of the day.
12:30pm - 1:30pm
Lunch at a local Japanese Restaurant.

Late afternoon shooting where we will stay out until after sunset and twilight has finished.
