Krafla

I often find the shapes of animals in stone, and I found this crouching animal in the cooling lava fields of Krafla in north east Iceland late one night. The lava is still warm to the touch and it’s not uncommon to see steam rising from its surface. Krafla is around 17km away from Myvatn, where my tent was set up. It was an eerie experience cycling up to this location late in the evening to photograph a landscape that never gets dark during the height of summer.
