Mcleod Stone, Harris

I’ve been to the Mcleod standing stone on Harris a few times, but this May, we had some very special lighting conditions and I was able to get an image of it that I’m happy with.

It was a special evening. The clouds seemed to gather, brooding, dramatic.

As the evening went on, the light just seemed to get more and more interesting and just before 11pm, we were heading back to the van for our return journey back to the hotel when I saw these textures in the sea on the beach below the Mcleod stone.

  1. Great images, Bruce. Quite relaxing to just sit and view them.

This may be a forgone conclusion, but I take it that you use a tripod for your camera to capture these scenes?

I’m not a tripod photographer but I’ve been considering getting one as I change my kit from zooms to single focal length lens and taking my time in capturing what I see through a few photos instead of just clicking away, if you know what I mean. Thanks, and great work as usual.

  2. If it’s a landscape, then it’s always a tripod for me. It’s all over my ebooks Glen.

Just find your spot first before using the tripod. They’re intended to keep the camera steady, not limit you to a vantage point.

  3. Thanks for the quick reply, Bruce, much appreciated. Yeah, I’m going over the e-books again. I printed them out and put them in binders so I can take and read them when & where I want.

For just about all of the photography I’ve done I haven’t needed a tripod, but after looking at your photo’s I realize that I will need the use of one if I’m even going to attempt photograph such as this.

Thanks again for your reply, always good to hear from you and I look forward to your new Portraits e-book.

    Glenn
