New Portfolio – Sandwood Bay
I’ve just completed a new portfolio, this time of Sandwood Bay in Scotland.

I also have a few other portfolios in the pipeline which I will be uploading over the next wee while:
Morocco Portraits
Los Glaciares National Park, Patagonia
Torres del Paine ‘08 Workshop
In the meantime, please feel free to view my new portfolio.

Hi Bruce,
Nice portfolio you’ve added. I’ve actually driven around that area, though I didn’t do the hike out to the bay. That region of Scotland seems to have many uninhabited beaches where you can feel like you’re the only person around for miles (and you probably are).
It’s a great feeling when you get somewhere like that. My memories of Scotland are all about driving through these remote craggy areas and just soaking it all up. You’re never really that far from civilisation, but there’s just no one around. So you can sit on a beach for hours and all you’ll hear is the wind and the waves.
I like getting into these situations as well, though it’s so out of character from my daily life that it’s something that doesn’t really occur to me to plan – it just happens on some of my trips and I relish it. Being alone in a place like that in some way frees you of all the concerns you have from day to day. There’s no one else around to remind you of something you have to do, and there’s nothing there you have to deal with. You could sit there a minute or a day and there would be no difference.
It’s definitely times like these when I most enjoy photography. Pity they’re not so common, but I guess I appreciate them all the more for it.
I went looking for the bay on google maps to see if I’d been in the area. Here’s the map of the place… I hope it doesn’t lead to a massive surge in tourism after people view the photos ;)
